Important Orange County Fourth of July Planning Tips

Arrive Early

Popular fireworks areas can fill several hours before showtime. Huntington Beach, Dana Point, Newport Beach, San Clemente and Rancho Santa Margarita are especially likely to experience heavy traffic.

Check Parking and Road Closures

Many cities close streets around parade routes and fireworks launch areas. Review official parking maps and closure notices during the week of the event.

Use Trolleys and Shuttles

Mission Viejo offers a free event shuttle. Coastal cities including Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano may operate summer trolley routes that help visitors avoid congested parking areas.

Bring Only Permitted Items

Rules involving chairs, blankets, coolers, alcohol, pets, bicycles and barbecues vary by city. Do not assume items permitted at one Orange County event will be allowed at another.

Personal Fireworks

Fireworks laws vary by city. Always check current local rules and official safety guidance before purchasing or using any fireworks.

Prepare Children and Pets

Large fireworks displays can be overwhelming for young children and animals. Consider bringing hearing protection for children and leaving pets safely at home unless the event explicitly permits them.
